POI - What is it anyway?

GPS POI (Point-of-Interest) or Point of Interest is actually a GPS location coordinates with a detailed description of the site. Description of location allows GPS Navigation GPS receiver to alert the user whenever they are near a POI, or that is especially required during your travel. Actually POI is a panel of advertising companies, hotels, gas stations, restaurants and other businesses on your GPS Map.

Using POI

Searching for a POI is easy and is done by simply clicking on the menu command in GPS navigation. In the iGo software, you can search for POIs near your current GPS location, near a specific address and close the cursor on your GPS map navigation. A similar strategy of searching for POIs using GPS Navigation and other like Garmin and TomTom.

POI - POI database categorization

POIs are divided into several interest categories. Depending on the model GPS Navigation POI categories are mainly: Shopping, Gas stations, parking, rest area, Restaurants, First Aid, Attractions, Auto Service, Accommodation, cash, government institutions, museums, stadiums, etc ... There is a possibility of creating your own POI adding the coordinates and description of the location. POI data, which contain the most basic and contain the name and address of the site. Some POIs can have more detailed descriptions with phone numbers, hours and web address.

POI - Update

GPS Navigation newer generations are able to connect over a wireless point directly to the server and make updates a POI database. It is important to periodically update and make update of your software, GPS Maps and POIs on your navigation. Thus, we achieve better accuracy and safety in the selection of GPS tracking and route, your GPS navigation becomes an efficient and versatile passenger. It is also possible to independently update a POI. Current base of POI database is 05.05.2011.
